Technological background

MetMax Europe’s over 140 items of traditional and CNC-machining equipment cover various areas of turning, milling and grinding with regards to machining technologies, raw materials and size ranges. The company has been continuously developing its technological base, typically with an investment budget of more than 12 per cent of its annual turnover.

The developments over recent years have been conducted in order to create the right conditions for highly efficient, complex, high-accuracy manufacturing processes. Our technological base contains 20 counter-spindle turning centres with robots (2 or 3 revolver heads, typically Y-axis machines), over ten 4-axis machining centres and more than five 5-axis machining centres. Apart from surface and internal grinding, our grinding technology includes parallel and slitting grinding, and our B-axis grinding centres with active measuring systems are also suitable for performing the most complex grinding tasks.

Our machining technology is complemented by in-house heat treatment technologies (annealing, induction hardening) and an assembly workshop, and with the support of subcontractor partners, a variety of surface treatment and additional heat treatment technologies are also available.

Quality assurance is supported by two measuring rooms (with a total of five 3D measuring instruments, several purpose-built measurement devices, such as a height measurement device and a contour plotter), a material laboratory (hardness measurement and crack detection required for heat treatment) and tool calibration laser devices. The turning and machining centres have been continuously equipped with automatic measuring systems in order to provide the appropriate conditions for automated manufacturing processes; these devices are capable of continuously monitoring the manufactured parts, documenting the measurement results and correcting the manufacturing programmes if necessary.

MetMax Europe is using an advanced ERP enterprise resource planning system (SAP) for the information technology support of its operation, and the monitoring and management of production and machining programmes are supported by an IT system (CIMCO) that is integrated with a separate system (TopSolid) used for modelling and programming.

The stable production environment is provided by an air-conditioned production hall with a floor area exceeding 8,000 m2 , which includes a warehouse with significant storage capacity for the finished goods.

Lathe

MetMax Europe’s set of lathes ranges from universal lathes to state-of-the-art numerical controlled (CNC) machines with single-spindle, twin-spindle and counter-spindle designs, with 1, 2 and 3 revolver heads (up to 48 tool places), in driven tool and 2 Y-axis designs. Owing to its complex turning centres, MetMax Europe’s main strength is the manufacture of complex, high-tolerance rotationally symmetric parts that also require milling operations.

Machining Centres

MetMax Europe’s machining centres range from traditional, universal equipment to state-of-the-art numerically controlled (CNC) three, four or five-axis machining centres with horizontal and vertical structures. MetMax Europe typically develops machining, device and tool technology for mass-produced parts based on its own internal competencies.

Grinder

MetMax Europe’s technological background covers cylindrical, internal and centreless grinding for the finishing of rotationally symmetric parts. Furthermore, the company also provides surface and parallel grinding technologies, mainly for the machining of block-like parts. MetMax Europe has a slitting grinder available for manufacturing high-accuracy grooves of high surface quality.

Induction hardening, annealing

MetMax Europe uses its own technology to harden parts (primarily made of mouldings and stainless steel). The technology includes two annealing furnaces and two items of equipment suitable for induction hardening which provide for the surface induction hardening of parts to precise hardness and crustal thickness.

Assembly

MetMax Europe manufactures various groups of complex subassemblies for several of its partners. MetMax Europe has been assembling spare parts and making subassemblies for years in order to increase added value and to provide comprehensive customer services.
